More commonly recognized as the name of IT Capital of India, Bengaluru is also affluent for it history. The story behind the name of Bengaluru is also interesting like the place. 'Bende kaalu ooru' is the word from which the name Bengaluru has been derived. This means 'the town of boiled beans'.
Naming of Bengaluru
several stories exist for naming of Bengaluru, the term 'Bangalore' was an anglicized account of "Bengalooru," a Kannad term. It is said that the Hoysala dynasty King Ballala had once got lost in the jungle. Then he met an old lady who offered him some boiled beans to satisfy his highly hungry stomach. The king became very pleased with the activity and offered great gratitude towards the woman, the King named the place as 'bende kaalu ooru'. There also lays contradictory opinion as other historical evidences are there that reveal the name 'Bengalooru' was recorded much before the reign of King Ballala.

Reign of the Sultans, Marathas and British
Reign of the Sultans, Marathas and British is significant part in the shaping of Bengaluru. The Vijayanagara Empire fell to the Sultan of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah, in the year 1638. Bengaluru (Bangalore) was under the rule of the Sultans, for the next sixty years. Thereafter, Mughals took over the city till 1687 and then they sold the kingdom to King Chikkadevaraja Wodeyar of Mysore. Consequently, the British Commissioners took the part for development into a contemporary city.
Post-Independence
Bengaluru (Bangalore) became the capital of Karnataka, after India gained independence in the year 1947. From then onwards, the city is developing at an alarming rate to make itself the largest IT hub of India.
IT Capital of India
The introduction of information technology in Bengaluru (Bangalore) led to the development of the city as the IT Capital of India, somewhere around the year 2000. As a result of growth in several of entertainment sectors, Bengaluru is also popular as 'The Fashion Capital of India', 'The Pub City of India' and most dominantly ‘”The Silicon Valley of India.
Re-naming as Bengaluru
Bengaluru was earlier known as Bangalore. Officially the name Bangalore has been changed and now got renamed as Bengaluru in the year 2006.
